Megève is a small luxurious town located about 1 hour south of Geneva, and 3 and a half hours from Milan. It is part of the French alps and most often is visited for the ski scene, however, it also is known to be a foodie hub with several Michelin star restaurants, extravagant nightlife, as well as luxury shopping. Megève is a perfectly manicured alpine town that was built to be a competitor of the luxe Swiss ski resort, St. Moritz. Megève is also home to a number of upscale hotels. I stayed at Au Coin du Feu, which is one of the more affordable hotels in the area and great for couples, however, quality remains that of a 5 star hotel. Au Coin du Feu is a classic alpine chalet located just a short five minute walk from the town center; a prime location to enjoy all the town has to offer. Upon arrival, you will find the most friendly staff and a cozy lobby with a fireplace, which makes for a popular place to sit and have a drink at night. The rooms are also just as cozy with beautiful wood beams lining the ceilings, yet with modern features making for the ultimate romantic mountain ambiance.

The rooms at Au Coin du Feu have a balcony that overlooks the village and the alps. This was a wonderful place to have coffee in the mornings, and admire the sun setting in the evening. Even the shower has a window to enjoy the stunning mountain views! Another great feature of the hotel includes the sauna and steam room, which is booked for an hour time slot by room so that you have a private, relaxing experience after a long day on the mountains…or shopping in town!
If you are an avid skier looking for a ski in/out experience in Megève, The Four Seasons Megève is the closest to the slopes in the village. The Four Seasons Megève is just steps away from the Mont d’Arbois lift, and also features a ski concierge and valet to prepare and transfer your equipment as needed. This stunning luxury resort property also features an incredible indoor-to-outdoor pool for guests to enjoy after hitting the slopes.
If you’re looking for a less expensive counterpart to the The Four Seasons Megève, the cozy chalet, La Ferme du Golf, is located just across the way, also within close access to Mont d’Arbois but at a cheaper rate.

Of course, one of the best winter activities during your trip to Megève is to ski! Megève ski area has 235 slopes for skiers to access. You can buy a single day pass or you can purchase the Mont Blanc Unlimited pass, which includes other ski areas and attractions in the region. Take a hot air balloon ride over the mountain tops with Alps Montgolfière if you’re feeling adventurous!

While there are many long and difficult hikes in the mountains, one of my favorites is the relaxing Creux Saint-Jean and Belle aux Bois waterfall hike. This is a short 30-60 minute hike through the woods, and you’ll come across a beautiful waterfall, an enchanted stone bridge, and perfect village vantage point. This is such a fun activity in Megève for all seasons!

If you are in need for an adrenaline rush, or just hoping to enjoy the scenery, snowmobiling at Nature Motoneige has options for all types of riders!

You don’t need to ski to après! Some popular bars and clubs in Megève include Chacha Megève, Cosa Papa (which has a bowling alley inside!), and La Ferme Saint-Amour. If you are looking for a more low key place to sit and have a drink, Le Bistrot de Megève is a great option for anytime of the day.

Enjoy the mountains even without skis! Snow shoes can be rented through Sport 2000. The most popular trail is Croisse Baulet via Col du Jaillet.

No travel guide to Megève is complete without mentioning shopping in the adorable village! Megève has some of the best shopping in the Alps, including brands like Moncler, Bogner, and Fusalp. You’ll also find a number of art galleries with unique pieces.

In the center of the town, you’ll find an ice skating rink perched above the square with ice skate rentals and warm drinks nearby!

Nordic skiing is just as popular as alpine skiing in Megeve, with 45 kilometers of ski trails to enjoy!

Where to Eat in Megève

For breakfast, Le Hibou Blanc is a fantastic option right in the main square of Megève. You have the option to dine inside or outside under a tent with heaters and blankets provided. The breakfast list is endless and so decadent, featuring a truffle omelette!
For coffee, Laudurée is a classic! This adorable cafe is a popular spot for midday coffee and macarons. Here you will be able to sit inside or outside in a heated area. Patisserie Le Comptoir Du Père Sotieu is another cozy alpine style cafe with an amazing selection of pastries!

For lunch, Le Bistrot de Megève is a great option, also with great drinks! The indoor decor is alpine themed with cowbells hanging of all sizes, and the outdoor space with heaters is popular after skiing.

For dinner, Restaurant Le Saint Nicolas, located in Au Coin de Feu for both guests and non guests alike, is a must! Restaurant Le Saint Nicolas is on the Michelin guide and was of the most impressive, memorable meals of my time in the Alps. A unique part of this experience was the house sommelier who selected wines to go with our meals based on our preferences. The dinner and desert bursted with flavor and exuded true art and craftsmanship.
Le Torrent is also a favorite dinner option for a cozy candlelit Savoyard meal. The ambiance exudes alpine chic with the fur covered chairs and old world decor. Be sure to make reservations in advance as both places book quickly!
